OVERVIEW

With an objective to provide quality higher education at an affordable fee structure, the Department of Civil Engineering at Pashchimanchal Campus, Lamachaur, Pokhara offering Master’s degree in general civil Engineering programme. Masters of Science in Infrastructure Engineering and Management (MSIEM), as the name suggests is targeted to achieve proper understanding with regards the various subjects in civil engineering.  The focus of the programme is to train the students in deeper theoretical knowledge which shall enable them to tackle practical complex problems of design and development in academic and industrial fields, as well as to pursue further academic achievements through research. This programme is also targeted to equip students with a range of transferable skills; an ideal combination for a successful career in civil engineering. The faculties at the department are committed to provide a comprehensive programme of study across a range of subjects in areas of civil engineering, a student may prefer to opt for a more specialized approach by adopting a particular subject theme & choosing specific elective courses in second & third semester with a research project related to the theme.

Why Enroll for MSIEM?

With one-of-a-kind M. Sc. programme in the nation, the department of Civil Engineering here is completely devoted

  • To provide the depth knowledge & understanding of civil Engineering Behavior of structures & their design in the prevailing context of Nepal.
  • To develop self-directed in solving problem and able to autonomously in planning & implementation tasks at a professional level in Civil engineering field with full knowledge of different civil engineering software.
  • To develop independent research in a topic relating to civil Engineering.

Course Structure

The entire program is designed consisting of two academic years divided into four semesters of six months each. The course curriculum is organized in the overall framework of credit system. Each course offered has a certain number of credits which indicates the weightage. The number of credits depends on the contact hours for the course and its work load. Course with one credit weightage will have 15 lecture hours in a semester. The total credit for the master’s program is 60 credits including 40 credits of core and elective courses, 4 credits of group project and 16 credits of thesis.

The breakdown of subjects offered in each individual semester is as below:

Evaluation System

The evaluation system is based on the continuous assessment by the course teacher and the final examination. The students have to pass individually in the assessment as well as the final examination. The minimum pass marks for the assessment and final examination is 50%.

The percentage is calculated from the following criterion:

Depending upon the final weighted aggregate percentage scored by a student, a division is awarded the degree in following categories:

80 % and above:                                                       Distinction

65 % or above and below 80 %:                          First

50 % or above and below 65%:                           Second
